    Description

A pair of large brass Buddhist temple lanterns from Japan.
Modern lanterns are wired for electricity. These were made to be illuminated with an oil lamp.
These type of lanterns have their interior paper changed regularly. These come with the original paper from when they brought from Japan.
They were donated to Soritsu (or Shuritsu) Temple, August 1911 by Takagi Masuhe from Niigata City in Japan. This was done in memoriam to Shakuni Jyosho who died October 23 1884. (This inscription is shown photos #10 & 11)
They're 14 1/2 inches tall to the top of the lanterns nipple. The handle over that is another 3 inches higher. They're 14 inches across the top. They weigh 6 pounds each.
