Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903. It was the world's foremost artisan glass house. Steuben was hand made by American craftsmen at the works in Corning NY.  Because it was hand made, each piece is unique.  Steuben glass was frequently the United States’ gift of State to foreign dignitaries. Steuben marketed no “seconds.”  Items that did not meet their exacting production standards were destroyed by being smashed in a bin. Steuben--a recognized luxury brand.

is scratch free and was made by hand in the USA of
original formula water pure Steuben Crystal (unlike some of their more recent shell designs that were outsourced to Portugal to cut costs--such as the Nautilus Shell, Nautilus Bowl  which were machine pressed of a lower quality glass overseas.)
Since Steuben closed in late 2011 it has become almost impossible to find scratch free gift worthy examples of this wonderful special original formula optically pure art glass.
